Khaberni - The Syrian news channel reported the outbreak of clashes last night in the desert of Maadan, east of Raqqa, northeast of the country, following an attack by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on army sites in the region.
The official channel indicated that the army artillery responded to SDF fire sources after they targeted army points in rural Raqqa.
Anadolu Agency, citing unnamed local sources, mentioned that a number of Syrian army soldiers were killed as a result of the SDF attack, without further details. Meanwhile, other local sources reported that there were also fatalities and injuries among the SDF due to the fierce clashes with the army.
Neither side has issued an official casualty report resulting from the clashes between them.
Clashes that occurred weeks ago cast doubts on the agreement that was signed in March between Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar` and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi, which stipulated the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces into state institutions, affirming the Kurdish community as an integral component of the people and the state.
The agreement included the integration of the entire region under SDF control within the wings of the new Syrian administration, including border crossings, airports, and oil fields, along with the return of displaced Syrians to their towns and villages in northeast Syria, with the agreement's full implementation to be completed by the end of this year.
Abdi, in a speech at a conference in Iraqi Kurdistan yesterday Wednesday, stated that his forces "pose no threat to anyone," and confirmed that the forces manage areas under the Syrian state umbrella.
The commander of the SDF expressed hope that all articles of the March 10 agreement signed with the government will be completed by the end of this year, and said that the agreement is "beneficial" and "put an end to the discourse of hatred and revenge."
