What is the progress on the Irbid Ring Road project

Khaberni - The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abu Al-Samn, inspected today, Wednesday, a number of road projects being undertaken by the ministry in the governorates of Al Balqa, Jerash, Ajloun, and Irbid.

According to a statement by the ministry, Abu Al-Samn reviewed the progress of these projects, their completion rates and the main obstacles facing the work, directing the need to intensify efforts to anticipate the rainy season and commending the efforts of the ministry's staff and the contractors involved in these projects.

Abu Al-Samn began his field tour by reviewing the progress of work on the Amman-Al Salt road maintenance and expansion project in Al Balqa governorate, which extends from the Al-Awaisheh complex to the start of the Dababneh tunnel, covering a distance of about 6 kilometers.

The project’s activities include the creation of a new service road on the Amman - Al Salt road to improve traffic flow and the construction of side islands to regulate the entry and exit to commercial complexes without affecting the fluidity of movement on the main road, in addition to maintaining the central island, repairing the existing pedestrian bridges to ensure road users' safety, and replacing lighting units with energy-saving "LED" units to reduce energy consumption and improve lighting quality.

The project aims to enhance the fluidity of traffic movement, reduce congestion, increase traffic safety levels, and develop the road infrastructure to meet citizens' expectations and consider environmental aspects by using modern energy-saving technologies.

Afterwards, Abu Al-Samn headed to Jerash Governorate, where he inspected the maintenance work on the Archaeological Road from the Jerash Visitor Center signal to Al Qayrawan roundabout, covering 1.5 km with a width varying between 11 and 17 meters from the Jerash Visitor Center signal to Al Qayrawan roundabout and from the military institution towards the governorate for the most damaged parts of the road.

The work includes scraping the asphalt layer and repaving the road with a hot basaltic asphalt mix including shoulders, treating potholes and sinking, concrete boundary works, hot painting, ground reflectors, raising manholes to the level of the new mix and maintaining existing speed bumps.

The completion rate in this project has reached 96 percent, with only line marking and painting remaining. The project cost is 210 thousand dinars and was implemented in less than three weeks.

In his third stop, Abu Al-Samn inspected the first phase of the road expansion and paving project for Kafranja-Wadi Al-Tawaheen road in Ajloun Governorate.

The project includes expanding the existing road through cutting, filling and laying new asphalt layers, along with maintaining the asphalt surface of the existing road and implementing a comprehensive set of traffic safety measures including ground paint, reflectors, metal barriers, protective mesh, and stone chains (gabions).

The estimated cost of the project is about 1.2 million dinars and the completion rate has reached 87 percent of the original contract work; the second phase of this road is expected to be implemented in the 2026 budget.

In the last station, the Minister of Public Works inspected the earthworks of the first part of the third phase of the Irbid Ring Road, which is one of the most strategic projects in the Irbid Governorate and part of the ministry's plan aimed at completing this vital project, which contributes to improving the traffic situation in Irbid and enhancing road safety.

During the tour, the Minister listened to explanations from the engineering staff about the progress of the project, which is being implemented at a value of 3.43 million dinars, funded from the general budget, and under the direct supervision of the Directorate of Road Implementation in the Ministry of Public Works.

The part currently under construction includes carrying out earthworks for the road's path covering approximately 3.86 kilometers, in addition to the earthworks associated with ramps for the Amman intersection, constructing an overpass on the Katm road, and building a local road stretching 520 meters, including earthworks and all implementation requirements.

The completion rate in this project has reached 40 percent, which is higher than the rate scheduled according to the project’s timeline, thanks to the continuous attention and follow-up on the project's work.
