Khaberni - Are you a chickpea lover? Despite its high nutritional value, many people suffer from digestive system disturbances after consuming it.
Nutritionist, Reham Fakhraldeen, explained that chickpeas contain complex sugars that the human body cannot easily digest.
When chickpeas are consumed, these sugars reach the colon or large intestine without being fully digested, leading to their fermentation, gas formation, and bloating.
It is advised to follow four simple steps to avoid the symptoms:
-
Soak the chickpeas for between 8 and 12 hours
-
Boil the chickpeas thoroughly
-
Add cumin during cooking
-
Peel the chickpeas if possible
