Khaberni - A 13-month-old infant experienced a serious accident in a Birmingham residence in the UK after swallowing drain cleaner from a white bottle he believed was intended for milk.
The incident occurred while his mother was cleaning the bathroom, the infant crawled behind her and picked up the container placed next to the bathtub without her noticing his presence.
According to the "Mirror" newspaper, the caustic liquid caused severe burns inside the mouth, tongue, and respiratory tract immediately upon swallowing.
The child was quickly transported to the Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital, and during his time in the emergency department, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest that lasted about three minutes before the medical team successfully resuscitated him and moved him to intensive care.
A large medical team participated in trying to limit the deterioration of his condition, especially after the extent of internal burns that affected his ability to breathe, swallow, and speak.
Doctors had to remove the nasal feeding tube and replace it with a stable feeding opening inside the stomach due to the damage to the mouth and its partial closure as a result of the burns.
Currently, the family is monitoring the child's medical situation from home, as there is no clear date set for reconstructive surgery, while assessments indicate that his condition requires advanced procedures to treat the effects of the deep burns.
The child is having difficulty eating and drinking, and his family is exploring additional treatment options with specialists outside the United Kingdom in search of medical support that can improve his condition.
