The director of traffic operations at the Greater Amman Municipality, engineer Shadi Al-Rawabdeh, confirmed that nocturnal excavations in the capital are completely prohibited, indicating that any excavation work after 5 PM is a violation that could lead to a fine of up to 500 dinars, while the contractor may be stopped from working and the permit withdrawn, and in some cases, he may be referred to the administrator.

Al-Rawabdeh explained on Hala radio that the municipality does not grant permits for nocturnal excavations, but only grants permits for transporting debris at night, in order to ensure the safety of the citizens, as trucks loaded with debris can weigh up to 40 tons, and are allowed to operate at night for only a week, except on Friday.

He added that the breakdown of these trucks on main roads during the day could cause major traffic crises.
