The World Food Programme seeks to aid 110 million of the hungriest people in 2026

Khaberni - The World Food Programme, part of the United Nations, warned today, Tuesday, that the world is facing a global hunger crisis due to insufficient resources to respond to it.
According to the World Food Programme's forecasts for 2026, 318 million people will face critical levels of hunger or worse next year, a staggering number that more than doubles the figure recorded in 2019. However, the decline in global humanitarian funding forces the World Food Programme to prioritize food aid to about a third of those in need.
The programme aims in 2026 to reach 110 million of the most vulnerable groups at an estimated cost of $13 billion, yet current funding forecasts indicate that the World Food Programme might only achieve about half of this target.
In a statement on the organization's official website, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, said, "The world is suffering from simultaneous famines, in Gaza and parts of Sudan, and this is completely unacceptable in the 21st century".
McCain added: "Across the world, hunger is becoming more entrenched, and the World Food Programme has repeatedly proven that early, effective, and innovative solutions can save lives and change people’s lives, but we desperately need more support to continue this vital work."
