Khaberni - Meta introduced, on Monday, a new tool for content creators on Facebook that helps them protect their content from theft.

Meta launched the Facebook Content Protection feature, which is a smartphone-specific tool designed to detect instances where original Reels created and published by the content creator on Facebook are used without their permission.

If a content creator is alerted that someone else is using their Reels, they will also have the ability to block the appearance of the Reels clips across both Facebook and Instagram, or to track the performance of the Reels clips and optionally add links attributing the content to them, according to a report by "TechCrunch," a site specialized in technology news.

Content creators can choose to forego claiming the Reels clips, allowing them to continue appearing on Meta platforms.

Meta said that adding the content protection feature is part of their efforts to help original content creators succeed on Facebook, without being deprived of this success by imitating accounts.

As part of this initiative, in July, Meta said it had deleted about 10 million accounts impersonating major content creators and took action against 500,000 accounts involved in annoying behaviors or fake interactions.

Although the new system also works to protect original content published on Instagram, it requires the content creator to post the Reels on Facebook to be tracked. This also applies if the cross-posting option from Instagram through the "Share on Facebook" feature is used.

This step may encourage more creators to share their work on Facebook as a result.

Meta stated that the new content protection system is automatically available to content creators on Facebook as part of its program for monetizing Facebook content, who also meet enhanced integrity and authenticity standards. In addition, access to the new program is available to Facebook creators who use the "Rights Manager" tool.

The tool uses the same matching technology currently employed by Meta's "Rights Manager" for copyright owners. It will display the matching percentage for each result shown, in addition to other details such as the number of views, the number of followers, and the monetization status.

The company explained that it gives content creators the ability to determine whether the system will report matches and how to do it. For example, if a content creator allows another account to use their content, they can add it to an "allowed list" so that those duplicated Reels are not automatically flagged.
