Election Forgery Crisis Escalates in Egypt

Khaberni - The National Election Authority in Egypt announced its commitment to investigate all the complaints that were submitted regarding the first phase of the parliamentary elections in the country, amidst news of violations and forgery in electoral districts.

During an urgent press conference following the intervention of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in response to the Egyptian people's demands regarding the violations of the first phase of the elections, the head of the National Election Authority, Counselor Hazem Badawi, pledged that "no voter will enter the Egyptian parliament except by the will of the voters."

Badawi explained that as part of the National Election Authority's commitment to ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process, affirming the voters' rights to freely choose their representatives, and believing in the principle of transparency, and in accordance with the statement published on the official page of the President of the Republic, the authority emphasized that it is not immune to any of the interactions that accompanied the electoral process.

The head of the National Election Authority confirmed that the authority has nothing to hide and does not fear announcing any measure or decision, and does not cover up any violation or excess, clarifying that its board of directors - entirely composed of judges - seeks only the satisfaction of God and the interest of the people.

The authority clarified that the examination of complaints and appeals received from candidates, voters, or observers is still ongoing, confirming that it will take all necessary legal procedures entirely transparently, even if it requires canceling the elections entirely or in some districts.

El-Sisi had directed in a post on his official social media accounts, the National Election Authority, which oversees the parliamentary elections of 2025 in the country, to thoroughly scrutinize and examine all the appeals submitted regarding the events that transpired in certain electoral districts where competitions between individual candidates occurred, following news of forgery and violations of the electoral process in some districts.

El-Sisi said: "The events that occurred in some electoral districts where competition between individual candidates occurred have reached me, and these events are to be examined and adjudicated by the National Election Authority alone, an independent body in its operations according to its establishment law."

El-Sisi added: "I ask the esteemed authority to thoroughly scrutinize these events and the appeals submitted regarding them, and to make decisions that please God - the Almighty – and candidly reveal the true will of the voters, and that the authority enhances the transparency of procedures by ensuring that each candidate's representative receives a copy of the vote tally sheet from the subsidiary committee, so that the members of the House of Representatives are genuine representatives of the Egyptian people under the parliament's dome."

El-Sisi advised the National Election Authority that "it should not hesitate to make the right decision when it is impossible to ascertain the true will of the voters, whether by completely canceling this phase of the elections, or partially canceling it in one or more electoral districts, and that the elections be subsequently held in these districts."

The Egyptian president requested the National Election Authority to announce the measures taken regarding the violations that have reached it in election campaigning, to ensure effective control over this campaigning, so that it does not deviate from its legal framework and is not repeated in the remaining election rounds.
