Khaberni - The General Director of Jordan Customs, customs general Ahmed Al Akkalik, said on Monday that small postal parcels of 200 dinars or less constitute two-thirds of the import volume through e-commerce coming to Jordan.
Commenting on the Cabinet's decision to approve a customs duty of zero and apply a sales tax tariff at 16% on the contents of postal parcels not exceeding 200 dinars in customs value, he added that postal parcels under 200 dinars used to pay 10% provided that the fixed amount is not less than 5 dinars, according to the kingdom.
He continued: "Now the decision has been amended and payment has become 16% where the percentage has also become more equitable."
Al Akkalik said that postal parcels over 200 dinars remained under the same customs duties as before, organized by customs declarations and subject to the applicable tariff rates, and nothing has changed on them.
The Cabinet decided to approve a customs duty of zero, and apply a sales tax tariff of 16% on the contents of postal parcels not exceeding 200 dinars in customs value.
The decision aims to support the stimulation of local spending and consumption rather than foreign, and to achieve equality and justice among local traders; which contributes to stimulating local commercial activity and revitalizing the local market.
