Khaberni - The Cabinet's Complaints Committee reached out to the citizen Mayar Nabil, who stirred controversy on social media with a post about her and her daughter's detention in the UAE to support and help her.
The Egyptian girl Mayar Nabil, a mother of a young girl, had posted a distressing plea on her personal social media page, recounting how her husband locked her in an apartment in the UAE, then returned to Egypt leaving her and her daughter without water, electricity, or lighting, in what she described as "betrayal and treachery" which exacerbated their suffering.
The immediate governmental intervention came after her plea spread widely on social media platforms under the hashtag Save Mayar Nabil, with thousands of supportive comments and calls for stricter measures against arbitrary detention in mixed marriages.
Mayar narrated the details of the prior agreement with her father and her husband, where the husband traveled first to the UAE, then she joined him at her family’s expense, on the condition that there would be no marital home in Egypt except for an unfinished apartment, under the pretext of no need.
The Egyptian girl stated that "the reality was different" and that upon her arrival, she was surprised by being locked up with her daughter in inhumane conditions, with a disruption in basic services, prompting her to urgently call on the Egyptian authorities to intervene to protect her rights and safety.
The Complaints Committee of the Cabinet affirmed its full commitment to follow up the case with the Emirati and Egyptian authorities, emphasizing on providing all forms of support to ensure the safe return of Mayar and her daughter, and legally holding the husband accountable.
The initiative of the Governmental Complaints Committee of the Cabinet is part of the state's commitment to take care of its citizens and offer assistance to those affected, reaffirming its commitment to provide all forms of legal and psychological support to the citizen Mayar Nabil to ensure her rights and safety along with her daughter.
The case of Mayar Nabil is one of the recurring cases of crises among Egyptian families in the Gulf countries, especially the UAE, where more than one million Egyptians work (according to the Ministry of Immigration 2024), mostly in the service and construction sectors, and these crises often arise from marital disputes leading to detention or neglect.
