Khaberni - On Monday, the International Security Council will vote on an American resolution supporting President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza, according to diplomatic sources.
The United States and several of its partners including Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, have called on the Security Council to "expedite" the adoption of the resolution.
Jordan, the United States, Qatar, Egypt, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey have expressed in a statement their "joint support" for the American resolution which mandates the formation of an international stabilization force, among other things, and expressed hope for its "rapid" adoption.
Last week, the Americans formally launched negotiations within the International Security Council, which consists of 15 members, on a draft text that follows up on the ceasefire in the ongoing two-year war between Israel and Hamas and supports Trump's plan.
Washington and its partners said in the statement, "We confirm that this is a genuine effort, and that the plan provides a practical path towards peace and stability, not only between Israelis and Palestinians but for the region as a whole."
The draft resolution welcomes the creation of the "Peace Council," a transitional governing body for Gaza that would theoretically be headed by Trump, with its mandate continuing until the end of 2027.
The resolution authorizes the member states to form an "interim international stabilization force" to work with Israel, Egypt, and the newly trained Palestinian police to help secure the border areas and disarm the Gaza Strip.
Unlike previous drafts, this resolution refers to the possibility of a future Palestinian state.
Israeli media, citing a senior official, said that the chances of passing the American draft resolution concerning the Gaza Strip in the Security Council are "high," given indicators of broad acceptance within the council.
Palestinian factions and forces have warned of the dangers of the American resolution proposed for voting in the Security Council, which concerns the establishment of an international force in the Gaza Strip, considering it an attempt to impose international guardianship over the sector and pass a vision biased to the occupation.
The Palestinian factions in a political memorandum affirmed that the proposed formulation paves the way for foreign dominance over the Palestinian national decision, by transferring the management of Gaza and reconstruction to a supranational international entity with broad powers, thereby stripping Palestinians of their right to manage their affairs.
Israeli officials said on Saturday that Tel Aviv demands that the international stabilization force to be deployed in Gaza be granted a broad mandate, according to Israeli media.
The officials mentioned that Tel Aviv demands that the international force use arms to disarm armed groups and protect civilians, indicating that Israel is demanding that the mandate granted to the international stabilization force be based on Article 7.
