Jordan Launching the Saving a Million Meals from Waste Event

Khaberni - The Smile of Life Charity Association organized, today, Sunday, the "Saving a Million Food Meals from Waste" event, within the "Preserving Grace" project that the association implements throughout the year as a national model in managing surplus food and food sustainability.
The project aims to collect clean surplus food from five-star hotels and provide it to modest families in less fortunate areas, through a mechanism that ensures compliance with safety standards and food quality, and offering it daily through an open buffet that allows families to choose meals that suit them, contributing to reducing food waste and enhancing the values of community solidarity.
The president of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the honorary president of the Smile of Life Association, Senator Khalil al-Haj Tawfiq, said, "Preserving Grace" is more than just a charity project, it is a national message aimed at tackling food waste and turning it into an opportunity to support thousands of needy families, explaining that saving a million meals from waste is a distinctive station and a great national and humanitarian achievement, derived from our authentic values in preserving grace and helping the needy.
He pointed out that the idea of the project was launched in response to the call of human and national duty, when reports revealed that Jordan wastes about a million tons of food annually, which necessitated the launch of a conscious initiative that transforms this waste into giving, noting the efforts of more than 300 volunteers, and the partnerships with hotels, restaurants, and national institutions, which enabled the project to reach thousands of beneficiary families, and distribute meals according to the highest standards of safety and public health, with an official license from the competent authorities.
In turn, the director of institutional development at the association, Engineer Mu'ath al-Bayk, affirmed that reaching a million meals would not have been achieved without the concerted efforts of partners and the adoption of institutions of a genuine community responsibility approach based on impact, pointing out that the project has become a national model to be emulated in reducing food waste.
He announced the beginning of a new expansion phase that includes increasing the number of hotels and entities providing meals, and expanding the scope of work to include new areas within the kingdom, in addition to developing an advanced digital system to manage preservation and distribution operations, and enhancing health standards and service quality to ensure the sustainability of the project and its humanitarian impact.
It is noted that "Smile of Life" implements programs and projects that target supporting modest families and empowering them, and operates through a number of sustainable initiatives, including the development of children's skills "KSD", orphan sponsorship, home restoration, and seasonal assistance, in addition to the "Preserving Grace" project, which is one of the most prominent models of reducing food waste and enhancing community solidarity in Jordan.
