Khaberni - Syrian media reported renewed clashes between armed groups and security forces in the town of Majdal, west of the Sweida governorate in southern Syria, as the investigation committee on the Sweida events prepares to hold a conference this evening.
The Syrian news channel reported that what it called "rebel gangs" in Sweida had violated the ceasefire and targeted points for the internal security forces in the village of Majdal.
This led to renewed clashes between the two sides, amid mutual accusations of breaking the ceasefire on the outskirts of the town of Majdal.
The Syrian News Agency SANA reported that some sites of the internal security forces in the town of Walgha, west of the governorate, were attacked by "armed groups".
Security officials confirmed targeting service facilities in the town of Mazra'a and points of internal security forces in the village of Majdal.
Groups known as the "National Guard" confirmed that the town of Majdal had been subjected to a "widespread attack" that lasted more than an hour, during which armed groups launched an attack across several fronts using medium and heavy weapons and drones.
In the meantime, the special investigation committee on the events in Sweida, Syria, is holding a press conference on Sunday evening, to present its findings during the past period, amid renewed tension and accusations of ceasefire breaches.
The committee's official spokesperson, Ammar Azaddin, mentioned that the conference will display the methodology of the committee's work and the steps taken over the past three months with legal standards, alongside outlining the next steps.
The Syrian Ministry of Justice formed on July 31 a special committee to investigate the events in Sweida, with the aim of determining legal responsibilities and transferring those involved to the judiciary.
