Jordanians to start tasting imported olive oil next week

Khaberni - The head of olive press owners and producers, Tayseer Al-Najdawi, anticipated that imported olive oil will start entering the local market through the International Olive Council next week, as part of the allocated and imported quantities according to approved standards.

He confirmed in radio statements that the recent rains "the first winter" will have a clear impact on improving the efficiency and ripening of olives after a long period of drought and high temperatures.

He clarified that the rains will not affect the prices of olive oil, indicating that the prices have started to stabilize within a range of 120 to 130 dinars per tin.

The Ministry of Agriculture allowed the import of 4,000 tons of olive oil to cover the local market’s needs in the first phase, on condition that the weight of the package of imported olive oil does not exceed 8 kg.

Jordan's need for olive oil reaches 25,000 tons, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, which confirmed that there will be no monopolization in the file of importing olive oil.

The Ministry, starting at the beginning of this week, has been giving approvals for the import of olive oil, indicating that after the import door is opened and local market needs are met, the door may be opened for exporting Jordanian olive oil.
