Barcelona Sinks 192 Billion Euros in Club Debt

Khaberni - The Catalan Sport newspaper published a record of the debts of giant clubs in the old continent, and Barcelona appeared with huge debts due to past spending chaos and the current renovation of Camp Nou Stadium.

The newspaper said that Barcelona is betting that the new stadium will turn into a gold mine, but until it is inaugurated and operates at full capacity, Barcelona must cope with the debt disasters around it.

The same source mentioned that the debt of the Catalan club reached 1.92 billion euros, making it the most indebted club in the world.

Sport continued stating that this strained financial situation is the result of debt accumulation in the past "turbulent" times and also due to the burden of Camp Nou stadium.

It added: "European football is experiencing a golden age, where the number of fans has broken record highs, and clubs have turned into global brands. However, behind this glittering facade lies a worrying truth, many of the continent’s strongest teams are stuck in a failed economic model."

It mentioned: "A recent ranking reveals that some of the most venerable clubs are accumulating debts amounting to millions of euros, threatening their stability. At the top of this list, Barcelona Football Club appears again."

It confirmed that the Catalan club tops the list with debts approaching 1.92 billion euros, a figure that shows the magnitude of the problem.

Sport quoted its counterpart, The Guardian newspaper, stating that the club's situation is described as a "mountain of debts", pointing out that Barcelona is not suffering from a temporary crisis, but it is the result of years of excessive spending, a payroll bill that was the highest globally for a period, and an administrative change that did not alter the situation."

It pointed out that the mix of investment, debt, and sporting needs puts Barcelona in a very critical situation, teetering on the edge of an equation that requires extreme precision.

According to the mentioned source, the management insists that the investment will secure its costs as soon as the new stadium starts generating revenue, and until then, the club is walking a tightrope, balancing between ambition and survival.
