Khaberni - Syrian sources reported the stabilization of olive oil prices at 100 US Dollars (equivalent to 70 Jordanian Dinars) per canister weighing 16 kilograms.
The prices of oil cans from the mill in Jordan range between 120 and 150 Dinars, as reported by citizens to "Khaberni" today, a week after the scandal erupted with the raid of a mill in Irbid and an apartment in Ramtha for selling counterfeit oil mixed with cooking oil as pure unfiltered natural oil.
Syrian sources explained that the quantities of olives reaching the mills are significantly lower compared to previous years, leading to a shorter waiting period during the pressing stage than in previous seasons.
They also indicated that the olive production has decreased to half this season.
There is also a noticeable variability in the oil yield from pressing, amidst discussions of reasons linked to climatic conditions and poor harvest, along with complaints accusing some mills of not complying with technical specifications in terms of kneading temperature and treatment duration, affecting the amount of oil extracted.
Oil pressing ratios varied significantly from one area to another, with farmers speaking about obtaining one canister for 70 to 110 kg of olives, while others estimated the need for 140 kg to achieve the same quantity.
However, the surprise came with complaints from three farmers in Daraa, who confirmed that 200 kg of olives produced only one canister.
