Khaberni - A man from South Carolina, convicted of killing three people over a span of five days more than twenty years ago, was executed by firing squad on Friday evening.
American media outlets reported that three prison officers, all carrying live ammunition, volunteered to execute 44-year-old Steven Bryant.
Bryant is the third man this year to be killed by the latest execution methods in South Carolina.
Bryant chose death by firing squad over lethal injection or the electric chair. He did not make a final statement, but instead cast a quick glance at the ten witnesses before a hood was placed over his head.
Bryant's lawyers filed a last-minute appeal, arguing that the judge who sentenced him did not take into account the severe brain damage caused as a result of his mother's drug and alcohol abuse during pregnancy. However, the Supreme Court rejected a review of Bryant's death sentence in October.
It is worth noting that Bryant is the seventh person to be executed in South Carolina in 14 months, after the state had paused executions for 13 years due to its inability to obtain lethal injection drugs.
