Khaberni - Russian neurologist Astanda Mushba warned that the consistent consumption of certain foods and drinks damages brain health and causes dementia.
In a meeting with the Russian site "kp.ru", the doctor said: "Excessive consumption of fast food, ready-made meals, and sugary soft drinks causes damage to the brain and increases the risk of developing dementia."

The doctor explained that consuming foods that contain trans fats or saturated fats increases the risk of dementia due to cholesterol build-up in the body leading to arterial sclerosis and hindering the required oxygen transport to the brain. Hydrogenated fats and oils are now widely used in preparing fast foods, fried foods, snacks, and baked goods, so these foods should be avoided.
According to the doctor, excessive intake of salt, also present in the mentioned foods, further increases the risk of developing small vessel disease in the brain and high blood pressure, which can lead to a stroke or dementia in the future.

A healthy diet can help reduce the risk of these diseases. Therefore, she advised including meats, seafood, eggs, cheeses, and fresh dairy products, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables in the daily diet. She said: "Such a balanced diet, rich in vitamins and trace elements, helps maintain brain health and slow down brain aging-related changes."
