Khaberni - An Omani medical team specialized at the National Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery at Sultani Hospital, successfully conducted an artificial heart transplant for a patient suffering from severe heart muscle failure.
The Omani News Agency reported today, Wednesday, that this surgery is the first of its kind at the center and represents a qualitative leap in the development of treatments for advanced heart failure in the Sultanate of Oman.
The operation took 4 hours, followed by intensive medical care until the patient's condition stabilized and she was discharged from the hospital, where she will continue to follow up with the specialized heart failure treatment team at the center.
The artificial heart represents one of the advanced treatment options for patients with severe heart muscle failure, and is used as a bridge to human heart transplants, or as a permanent option in some cases.

The introduction of the artificial heart technology is a new addition to the center's service system, following its success in implementing minimally invasive cardiac surgeries, as well as performing human heart transplants, continuing efforts to develop specialized services led by national competencies.
This operation represents a qualitative leap in the level of cardiac and surgical services in the Sultanate of Oman, confirming the capability of national medical competencies to keep pace with the latest global practices.
This achievement is part of the efforts of the National Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery at Sultani Hospital in adopting advanced medical technologies, and enhancing the integrated healthcare system, in alignment with the goals of "Oman 2040" vision to develop the health sector, improving efficiency and quality of life for citizens and residents.
