Khaberni - Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, made thunderous and decisive statements regarding one of the most painful decisions in the modern history of the club, which is the departure of the legend Lionel Messi.
Laporta confirmed that he has no regrets about the way the Argentine star's departure was handled in the summer of 2021.
In an interview with Radio Catalonia, Laporta emphasized the fundamental principle governing management decisions, saying: "Despite everything that happened regarding the departure of Leo Messi, I feel no regret."
The club president justified his stance by pointing out that the entity of the club and its financial future is the utmost priority, even at the expense of the emotional desires of the fans and management.
He added: "Barcelona above anyone else. This was not what we all wanted, but it was not possible at that moment."
Laporta's statements confirm that the decision not to renew Messi's contract, which forced him to move to Paris Saint-Germain, was derived from economic circumstances and the financial fair play regulations governing the club at the time, and not a personal desire.
