Two students from Princess Sumaya win first place globally in Generative AI

Khaberni - Two students from the King Talal School of Business Technology at Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Layan Al-Jamal - Business Information Technology, and Lara Boyajian – Business Management, as part of a global team, won first place globally in the "Pathfinder" Generative AI competition within the (Amazon Web Services (AWS) University Engagement Program – Cohort 2025).

According to a statement from the university today, Wednesday, this international competition included students from various universities around the world and covered three main tracks: software engineering, product management, and machine learning.

This year's competition included 900 students and 200 mentors from 14 countries, namely: Albania, Kosovo, Lebanon, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Jordan, France, Romania, Malta, and Kazakhstan.

The winning team, which included five students from various international countries and under the supervision of Amazon, presented an innovative project titled "PlayMap," a cloud-based web platform powered by artificial intelligence, aimed at transforming educational materials into mind maps and interactive educational games using large language models (LLMs).

The project was distinguished for being a practical, comprehensive application and not just an idea or theoretical presentation, as it received commendation from the judging panel due to its technical comprehensiveness and integration of software engineering, product management, and machine learning.

The president of the university, Dr. Wijdan Abu Al-Haija, stated that what the university's students present is a true embodiment of excellence and uniqueness, as they managed to win first place on their first participation in these global competitions, reflecting the quality of education at the university and its ability to compete within major global companies and platforms in line with the university's vision of preparing future technology leaders and entrepreneurs.

It is noted that this competition is held annually over 9 weeks, directly supervised by Amazon Web Services, starting with registration, followed by an intensive training camp, before the results are announced in October each year.

The competition is a leading global platform that aims to develop students' skills in software engineering, project management, and artificial intelligence, through practical real-world experiences that enhance intercultural collaboration and link academic education to industrial innovation.
