Khaberni - Recent research confirms that what we consume daily not only affects our physical health but also extends its impact to the brain and its vital functions. Food is not merely a source of energy; it is a fundamental element in maintaining focus, memory, and cognitive capacities. However, there are certain foods that can cause long-term deterioration in brain health and weaken memory and sleep.

Among the most prominent of these foods are seed oils and ultra-processed foods. These oils—such as canola oil, soybean oil, and corn oil—undergo intensive refining processes that strip them of beneficial components and produce compounds that cause inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is considered one of the most dangerous factors that accelerate brain aging and increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, it is recommended to rely on sources of healthy fats such as virgin olive oil, avocados, and unroasted nuts.

The second problematic food is refined sugar. Excessive consumption leads to a sudden increase in blood sugar levels, followed by excessive insulin secretion, which causes disruption in brain functions. Over the long term, this may lead to diminished focus, difficulty in recalling, and an increased susceptibility to depression and anxiety. It is better to replace refined sugars with natural sugars found in fresh fruits and natural honey in moderate amounts.

The third enemy to brain health is alcohol. Studies indicate that it not only directly affects brain cells but also weakens the process of deep sleep, which is essential for recharging the brain and regulating memory. Regular alcohol consumption leads to an imbalance in the beneficial gut bacteria, negatively affecting the communication between the gut and the brain, known as the "gut-brain axis."

It is clear that maintaining brain health starts in the kitchen. Avoiding processed foods, reducing refined sugar, abstaining from alcohol, and relying on a diet rich in vegetables, oily fish, and nuts contribute to enhancing memory, focus, and healthy sleep.
