Khaberni - Liverpool (the Premier League titleholder) plans to contract a distinguished player to succeed Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, who is suffering from a tough start this season.
Liverpool's results have faltered recently after a strong start to the season, winning only one of the last 6 Premier League matches, exposing the players to severe criticism, with Salah receiving the brunt amid escalating questions about his recent performance decline.
"The Reds" Eye an African Player
According to "Insider Football", a website specialized in football news, Liverpool is keenly observing Gambian Yan Kuba Mente, a winger at Brighton Albion.
It was added that Liverpool's interest in the 21-year-old Mente is part of the club's long-term plans to find a replacement for Salah and to build a team for the future.
Liverpool seems very impressed by Mente's speed and direct playing style, which fits perfectly with “The Reds” playing style, according to the site.
Analysts have praised Mente's abilities, with one saying he is "very exciting and among the most distinguished players in the Premier League. It is natural for his name to be linked with Liverpool, especially since he previously worked with Arne Slot in his last season with Feyenoord."
"It is not surprising that Liverpool includes him among their interests, especially with ongoing discussions about finding a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah," another analyst added.
The British site completed, "Mente now has experience in the Premier League and has previously worked with Slot, making the deal seem logical from several aspects."
On the other hand, Brighton is not keen to easily let go of Mente’s services especially after his brilliant start this season (scoring a goal and providing three assists in the league), and for this reason, they have set a high price of 60 or 70 million pounds in case a club wants to sign him.
Slot (Liverpool’s coach) is very worried about the declining performance of several of his key players, clearly reflected in the team's results this season.
Salah was among those who faced criticism especially since his figures last season (29 goals and 18 decisive passes in 38 matches) seem far from this season so far (4 goals and two decisive passes in 11 matches).
It is worth mentioning that Salah renewed his contract with Liverpool last April for two seasons, i.e., until the summer of 2027, and hence Liverpool does not plan to sell him at the current time, hoping he will regain his best form in the upcoming matches.
Liverpool currently ranks eighth in the Premier League, having gathered only 18 points in the first 11 matches.
