Khaberni - The Argentine star Lionel Messi, striker for Inter Miami, said he had imagined spending his entire career at Barcelona, expressing his intention to return once more to the Catalan city, but he has not yet decided on the possibility of participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with his national team.
Messi said in an interview with the Catalan newspaper "Sport": "I always feel nostalgic about the past, and I am overwhelmed with many emotions whenever I hear something about Barcelona, they are amazing memories."
He added, "I felt a strange feeling after leaving the team, because I played my last years without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic."
He continued, "After having spent my entire life in Barcelona, I didn't leave the club the way I imagined or dreamed of, rather I imagined spending my entire life in Europe, and my entire career with Barcelona, that was my plan and desire."
He went on, "It seemed that the experience of moving to Paris Saint-Germain was a nightmare, but it wasn’t, I and my family enjoyed the atmosphere of the city, Paris is a wonderful city, but I did not enjoy the daily routine in my work whether in training or matches, I wasn’t comfortable honestly."
He emphasized, "I seriously look forward to returning again to Barcelona, Khaberni city and the club very much, and my wife, colleagues, and I always talk about that, and about the idea of living there again, and I also look forward to returning to the Camp Nou stadium after its opening, because I have not been back to it since my transfer to Paris and then the team shifted its matches to Montjuic."
Regarding the possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup, he said, "Playing in the national team's shirt has a great feeling, especially in major tournaments like the World Cup, and it became even more wonderful after winning the title, but I repeat, I do not want to be a burden."
He continued, "I want to feel that I am in good physical shape, and be sure that I am physically fit, because the season in the American league is different from the European leagues, since there is a preparation period between the seasons, and we will play a number of matches a few days before the World Cup, so I anticipate my readiness."
