Khaberni - After its release as a book by the Jordanian "Al-Now Publishers and Distributors" only a few weeks ago, the play by writer Abdul Razzaq Al-Rubaie "Balances of Musabbeh's Room" will be presented to the public at a ceremony held by the Museum (Place and People) in collaboration with the Omani Theater Association, taking place next Saturday evening at the stage of the Omani Cinema Association.
The direction is led by artist Saeed Amer, with performances by Youssef Al Balushi and Noor Al Huda Al Ghammari, lighting by Haitham Al Balushi, and dramaturgy by Jumana Al Tarawneh.
The play is freely adapted from the novel "Sabira and Aseela" by Galia F.T. Al Said.
It unfolds in a space that combines the museum, theater, and memory, through the story of the grandson "Musabbeh", who sneaks into his grandfather's room, converted into a heritage corner at the Museum of Place and People, initiating a journey of regaining identity and memory that weaves its narrative between reality and fantasy. The text focuses on the duality of place and identity through the biography of the hardworking grandfather who rose from the bottom of society to create a distinguished place for himself, only for his dreams to crumble due to social disparities, turning his room into a symbol of dignity and betrayal at the same time.
The performance offers a visual and poetic vision addressing several human and social issues, including the role of women in society, the clash between tradition and change, and the tension between concealment and truth. The director employs contemporary theatrical techniques such as shadow play, breaking the fourth wall, and temporal overlap between past and present, giving the performance a contemplative visual and dramatic dimension.
The event will commence with the launch of the book "The Place and the People - A Museum Tale and More" by Dr. Galia bint Fahr bin Taimur Al Said, newly published by Mazoon Printing in Muscat,
and concludes with the signing of three new releases issued by the museum in collaboration with "Al-Now Publishers and Distributors" in Jordan, which are the English translation of the book "Whisper in the Darkness of the Word" by Faisal bin Said Al Alawi, "The Museum Novel" by the poet Jumana Al Tarawneh, and "Balances of Musabbeh's Room" by the poet Abdul Razzaq Al-Rubaie, and the event is held as part of the Sultanate's celebrations for the National Day, which falls on November 20 of each year.
