Death of Hollywood Star Sally Kirkland at 84

American actress Sally Kirkland, an Oscar nominee for the film "Anna," has passed away at the age of 84 after a battle with illness and a series of health injuries.

Hollywood star Sally Kirkland, an actress who combined beauty and talent, has died after a long career spanning decades in theater, cinema, and television.

Her agent, Michael Green, announced her death this morning, Tuesday, at “Palm Springs” hospital after suffering from chronic diseases, at the age of 84.

Kirkland was famous for her distinctive roles alongside Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the film The Sting, and she received an Oscar nomination for her influential role in the film Anna in 1987, which marked a milestone in her artistic career.

Earlier, the actress's friends launched a fundraising campaign on the “GoFundMe” platform to help cover her medical care costs, following her suffering from several serious injuries including fractures in the neck, wrist, and hip.

In a statement, they mentioned that "the past few months have been tough on Sally, as she fell while bathing, leading to multiple injuries," confirming that she received constant care in a specialized facility until her final days.

Sally Kirkland was born in New York on October 31, 1941, and was named after her mother, who was a fashion editor at Vogue and Life magazines. Her father worked in the metals trade.

Kirkland began her career as a model before turning to acting, where she studied at the Actors Studio under the legendary Lee Strasberg and Uta Hagen, and graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1961.
