Khaberni - The Court of Cassation upheld two judgments issued by the State Security Court against two men convicted in two separate cases on charges related to drug trafficking and possession of drugs for the purpose of selling.

In the first case, the court sentenced a defendant to more than three years in prison after convicting him of possessing quantities of drugs inside his home, noting that the Anti-Narcotics Department seized 5,400 Captagon pills and a quantity of hashish prepared for sale in the local market from him.

The case files indicated that the defendant kept the drugs in his home with the intent to sell them, noting that the State Security Court had previously sentenced him to five years in prison and a fine of five thousand dinars before reducing the sentence to three years and four months and a fine of 3500 dinars as a second chance was given.

The court clarified that the accused appealed the judgment through his lawyer, who considered the evidence insufficient to prove the charge of trafficking, however, the Court of Cassation rejected the appeal, confirming that the defendant voluntarily confessed to possessing the drugs with the intent of selling them, and that the State Security Court adhered to the proper legal procedures in issuing its decision.

In a second judgment, the Court of Cassation affirmed another decision issued by the State Security Court sentencing a drug dealer to more than three years in prison after convicting him of delivering half a kilogram of hashish to an undercover security officer in Amman.

The court mentioned that the defendant agreed with an undercover security officer from the Anti-Narcotics Department to sell half a kilogram of hashish and a gram of crystal meth, where he was caught red-handed during the delivery process, while a search of his home found additional quantities of hashish, marijuana, and Captagon pills.

The State Security Court sentenced the defendant to five years in prison and fined him five thousand dinars before reducing the sentence to three years and four months and a fine of 3500 dinars, considering his social circumstances and giving him a new chance in life.

The Court of Cassation confirmed that the State Security Court’s judgment was based on clear confessions and substantial physical evidence, noting that the court applied the law properly and that the issued punishment was proportional to the committed crime.
