Khaberni - Cleaning worker Maria Florinda Rios Perez was standing in front of a house door in Whitestown, Indiana, reviewing the maps app with her husband to start a new workday. However, a single knock on the wrong doorstep took her life, after a bullet was directly fired from the homeowner's gun, ending the life of the 32-year-old woman, leaving behind four children waiting for justice.

Her husband, Mauricio Velasquez, recounts that they had double-checked the address multiple times and did not realize the mistake until the gunshot rang out. The local police reported no signs of forced entry or aggressive behavior, confirming that the shooter surrendered himself and the investigations are ongoing.

The case was referred to the district attorney's office in Boone County to determine the applicability of the "stand your ground" law to the facts, amidst a heated debate about the limits of "perceived danger" and the rising gun culture that turns simple navigation errors into fatal incidents. The incident sparked widespread controversy in the United States, with activists citing it as "evidence of escalating fear and the prevalence of guns," while others described it as a "fatal mistake that cost an innocent mother her life."
