As part of its community responsibility and commitment to supporting humanitarian initiatives, and its eagerness to contribute to bolstering the health sector in the kingdom, Zain Jordan participated through its free mobile pediatric clinic in the free medical campaign for eye exams, organized in the Central Jordan Valley area in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Princess Alia Foundation, and OneSight EssilorLuxottica and the Voluntary Optometric Services (VOSH) and their team at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Alfa Optics company, and the activities lasted for 4 consecutive days, aiming to provide free medical services to the less fortunate, primarily eye exams and provision of medical glasses to those in need.
Zain's clinic participated by providing its comprehensive health services to the beneficiaries, through its specialized medical team consisting of a pediatrician and a dentist, where the team conducted comprehensive medical examinations for children in the Central Jordan Valley area, including clinical inspection, and oral and dental health, in addition to dispensing the necessary medications and treatments for free. The team also contributed to referring chronic cases that require specialized medical follow-up to the relevant governmental health bodies to complete their treatment, and Zain through its participation in the campaign contributed to raising awareness about the importance of eye care and early detection of eye diseases.
Zain's participation in this initiative extends the role of its free mobile pediatric clinic, which is one of the company's most prominent initiatives in the field of corporate social responsibility. Launched in 2003, it regularly travels across the provinces of the kingdom to provide primary medical services for free in remote and less fortunate areas, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, as part of Zain's efforts to provide healthcare to those in need and contribute to improving the quality of their lives. Since its launch, the clinic has served over 259,000 individuals..
The campaign witnessed cooperation from a number of local and international partners, including Jordan University of Science and Technology, which is the main academic partner in this initiative. It led the academic and community aspects of the campaign through the participation of a number of faculty members, specialists and optometry students, who conducted comprehensive visual examinations for the beneficiaries, and provided guidance and community awareness about common eye diseases, genetic conditions, and preventable causes of visual impairment. The university also provided the necessary clinical equipment and devices to ensure that the work proceeded with the highest medical standards.
Alfa Optics also participated in the campaign by providing optometry specialists and the essential equipment required for conducting examinations, as well as handling the fabrication of medical glasses in its labs to ensure direct delivery to the beneficiaries during the campaign. The number of beneficiaries reached 1,074 individuals, while approximately 1,000 medical glasses were provided to those in need in the area.
Princess Alia Foundation took charge of coordinating the efforts between the participating parties and providing logistical and field support, while OneSight EssilorLuxottica organized the vision screenings and provided lenses and medical glasses for free, as part of its global mission aimed at eliminating uncorrected visual impairment, and ensuring that individuals in less fortunate areas have access to vision care services.
Anurag Hans, president of OneSight EssilorLuxottica and head of Global Missions at EssilorLuxottica, said: "Residents of some areas in the Jordan Valley have long faced difficulties in accessing vision care services. Through this partnership, which combines local efforts and global commitment, we are working to change this reality by providing vision exams and medical glasses to those most in need, and giving communities new opportunities."
This initiative underscores the importance of partnership and solidarity in serving the less fortunate, especially between public sector institutions, the private sector, and civil society, and affirms Zain's ongoing commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at improving health services and promoting sustainable development, through initiatives that make a real difference in the lives of individuals and leave a positive impact on the Jordanian society.
