Khaberni - Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara confirmed in an interview with "Fox News" the necessity to hold Bashar al-Assad accountable.
And Al-Shara, who made a historic visit to the White House, stated in the interview that: "Justice must prevail. We have established a justice committee aimed at holding accountable all those involved in the crimes committed, including Bashar al-Assad."
Last October, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced during his meeting with journalists from Arab countries that Bashar al-Assad and his family reside in Russia purely for humanitarian reasons, due to a direct threat to his life if he remained in his homeland.
It is worth noting that in late November 2024, armed opposition factions launched a wide-scale attack on Syrian Army positions and took control of Damascus on December 8, which led Assad to resign from his position and leave the country.
Since then, Ahmad Al-Shara has become the actual president of Syria, and announced on January 29, 2025, that he assumed the presidency during a transitional period he said would last four to five years.
