Khaberni - Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa left the White House in Washington on Monday evening after a lengthy meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump.

The closed talks, which were barred from press and photographer attendance, lasted one hour and thirty-six minutes, highlighting a new phase in the relations between the two countries.

Upon departure, Al-Sharaa’s entourage paused to greet members of the Syrian community who had gathered in front of the American presidential residence, in a scene surrounded by tight security measures.

This visit to the American capital was the second for the Syrian President since taking the reins of power in his country, following an earlier visit in September.

The previous visit held particular significance, as during it he delivered a speech to the United Nations General Assembly, becoming the first Syrian leader to speak from this prestigious platform in decades.

The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that three main U.S. bodies; the Departments of State and Commerce, alongside the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Treasury Department, had issued a joint statement.

This statement specifies the suspension of the "Caesar Law" operations, and allows for the transfer of most American-manufactured goods intended for civilian use, as well as software and technology, into Syria without the need for prior licenses.

This measure follows a previous step in May, when the Treasury Department issued a decision to ease sanctions imposed on Damascus, following President Trump’s announcement to stop all punitive measures on Syria.
