Khaberni - Ayman Al-Awran, Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture for Plant Wealth, excluded on Monday any negative impacts on agriculture if the rainy season this year continues like last year, amid a delay in rainfall this year.
Al-Awran stated that there is a shift in the rainy season and changes in rainfall patterns.
He explained that the Ministry of Agriculture has established 3650 water collection wells for farmers this year, and in 2024, approximately 2979 wells for farmers.
He added that 35 water pits were created to attempt to utilize any water point available.
He indicated that there is an expectation of rainfall in December according to the rainfall map.
Al-Awran advised farmers to delay planting until the second rainfall and directed those planting fruit trees to plow the land and apply organic fertilizers and treatments when it rains.
Regarding the current olive season, he said there are two reasons for its weakness, the first lies in the reduced amount of rainfall and the second lies in the phenomenon of this tree, which produces well one year and then production decreases the following year.
On his part, Abdelmonem Al-Qaralleh, the acting director of the Meteorological Department, said that the delay in rainfall does not indicate that the rainy season is weak, as there are seasons where the rainfall was delayed yet the quantity was good.
He added that up to November 10 this year, the temperatures were higher than last year and the amount of rainfall was more in 2024.
In this context, Al-Qaralleh predicted, there will be a state of atmospheric instability affecting Jordan this week, which will last for 3 days.
He said that the rainfall might be greater on Friday and Saturday compared to Thursday, which will have "light" instability.
He added that forecasts become more accurate as the weather system approaches.
