Istanbul faced a controversial incident today, Monday, after an armed man stormed into a famous television station's building in revenge for an anchor who insulted his wife, who works as a security guard at the site.
A circulating video clip from inside the "beIN Sports" channel building in the "Sarıyer" area showed the angry man, named Kamal (42 years old), sitting behind a desk holding a gun, trying to confront the anchor Güntekin Onay and forcing him to apologize to his wife after an altercation that occurred the previous day.
The man's actions caused panic among the channel's staff, before special security forces intervened, controlled the situation, and managed to convince the attacker to surrender. It was later revealed that the pistol he had was not real, which prevented any physical harm from the incident.
The incident lasted for about an hour from the start of the break-in until its end, and the targeted anchor was not present in the building during the incident, as he had ordered food from outside during the live broadcast of the Turkish Super League matches.
Local reports clarified that the security guard had refused to admit the food delivery according to the usual procedure, which led to her receiving a call from anchor Onay who insulted and humiliated her, prompting her husband to intervene the next day and storm the channel to avenge his wife.
The incident ended without injuries, with the man later handed over to the police to complete the investigations.
