Jordan  Agriculture sets 10 conditions for importing olive oil and obliges importers to commit to a judicial pledge

Khaberni - The Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture clarified today, Monday, regarding the receipt of several inquiries about the import of olive oil, the Ministry of Agriculture would like to clarify the conditions that must be adhered to for importing olive oil, as follows:

Package size:

The package size must not exceed (4) liters.

Required documents:

The shipment must be accompanied by an original certificate of origin or a certified copy thereof issued by the country of origin.

Package specifications:

The metal containers must be internally coated with a food-grade paint and hermetically sealed.

The amount of oil in the package must not be less than (90%) of the total water capacity.

The following must be printed on all sides of the package:

Product name.

Oil quality (extra virgin).

Country of origin.

Date of production and expiration.

Package weight.

Agricultural season (2025/2026).

Name of the producing company.

Required laboratory analyses:

Attach certificates and results of analyses issued by internationally accredited laboratories, including the following tests:

Acidity test: ≤ 0.8 (expressed as oleic acid/100 gm).

Peroxide value test: ≤ 20 milli-equivalent peroxide oxygen/kg oil.

Adulteration test (GC): According to the Jordanian Standard No. 3/2012.

Sensory examination: median fruitiness > zero, and median defects = zero.

Pesticide residue test: The shipment must be free of any pesticide residues.

Compliance with the Jordanian Standard:

The imported oil must be of the first category (extra virgin olive oil) and comply with the Jordanian Standard No. 3/2012 issued by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization.

Border inspection procedures:

Samples from the shipment will be taken at the border center for testing for pesticide residues and compliance with quality standards and fraud examination, and sent to the laboratories of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization to verify compliance with Standard No. 3/2012.

The shipment may not be released from the border center until the results of the laboratory tests are available.

Judicial pledge:

Submit a judicial pledge of (25,000) Jordanian dinars prohibiting the sale of the shipment outside the Jordanian markets, and committing not to mix it or repack it for trade in the local market or for re-export.

Invoices and tracking:

The customs declaration is not completed until the Directorate of Agricultural Marketing in the Ministry of Agriculture is provided with sales invoices within a period not exceeding (3) months from the date of entry of the shipment.

Shipment validity:

The ministry reserves the right to reject or cancel any shipment in case of any health condition that requires this during the validity period of the license.
