Khaberni - Some people occasionally experience sudden palpitations in the heart, which manifests as an acceleration of its beats or a strong and irregular pulse inside the chest, possibly accompanied by dizziness or shortness of breath, arousing concern about potential heart or nervous system issues.

In this context, "Khaberni", explains the possible causes of sudden heart palpitations, as mentioned by Dr. Sherif Hetta, a consultant in public health and preventive medicine.

Sudden Heart Palpitation Causes

Dr. Hetta states that sudden heart palpitations can often result from simple and temporary factors that are not a cause for concern, such as:

1- Excessive stress, anxiety, or panic attacks.

2- Overconsumption of caffeine found in coffee or energy drinks.

3- Lack of sleep and physical or mental stress.

4- Smoking or taking certain stimulant medications or antihistamines.

5- Low blood sugar levels or dehydration.

He adds that these conditions usually resolve with the disappearance of the cause, but persistent or recurrent palpitations may indicate an organic problem with the heart or thyroid gland.

When do palpitations indicate a serious problem?

Dr. Hetta confirms that sudden heart palpitations warrant concern if accompanied by any of the following symptoms:

1- Chest pain or pressure.

2- Severe dizziness or fainting.

3- Obvious shortness of breath.

4- Heart rate acceleration for an extended period without a clear reason.

He indicates that these symptoms may be associated with a heart rhythm disorder, heart muscle weakness, or hyperthyroidism, conditions that require accurate diagnosis and urgent medical intervention.

Prevention and Control Methods for Heart Palpitations

Dr. Hetta recommends a set of guidelines to prevent sudden heart palpitations, including:

1- Reducing the intake of coffee, stimulants, and energy drinks.

2- Practicing relaxation exercises and deep breathing to reduce stress.

3- Maintaining a regular sleep pattern and avoiding excessive staying up late.

4- Drinking sufficient amounts of water throughout the day.

5- Consulting a doctor to perform an ECG and thyroid tests if palpitations are recurrent.
