8 Warning Signs of Breast Cancer That Warrant a Checkup

Khaberni - One woman in every eight is affected by breast cancer during their lifetimes, and this type of cancer is most common among women in 157 countries out of 185, according to data from the World Health Organization for 2022.

The most common signs of breast cancer include the appearance of a lump in the breast. However, there are many other signs beyond lumps that signify the need for an examination.

According to "The Sun" newspaper, the most important are:
1. Lump or swelling

A lump or swelling is a major sign of breast cancer and should be checked. Lumps may also appear at the top of the chest or under the armpit.

Most breast changes, including breast lumps, are not cancer. But the earlier breast cancer is found, the better the likelihood of successful treatment.
2. Skin changes

From wrinkling to the slightest hint of changes in the skin's appearance, these are signs that require examination.

3. Changes in size or shape

Breasts do not match exactly in shape, and may vary in shape and texture with age, whether from hormonal changes or loss of firmness over time.

Despite changes due to menstrual cycles and pregnancy, it is important to regularly inspect the breasts to determine if changes in size or shape are normal.
4. Changes in color

Signs of breast cancer are not limited to texture only. A change in breast color to red or dark or inflammation may be another sign of the disease.
5. Changes in the nipple

Nipples vary in shape and size, and some women naturally have inverted nipples. However, sudden changes in the nipple should be noted.

"If a breast nipple suddenly starts to retract inward, or changes its shape or position in any way, it might be a warning sign."
6. Rash or peeling

Wearing a lace bra can cause spots or a rash. But if a rash around the nipple continues as an ongoing problem, it’s important to have it checked as it might be a sign of something more serious.

Also pay attention to peeling.

7. Unusual discharge

If fluid is discharged from the nipple without pressing on it, it's important to have it checked by a doctor.
8. Persistent pain

In itself, breast pain is not a sign of breast cancer - after all, breasts may be painful if they are large or compressed inside a bra.

But pay attention to pain in the breast or armpit that persists or is almost constant, as this warrants a doctor’s consultation.
