Khaberni - Zahran Mumtaz, the elected Mayor of New York City, visited one of the stores owned by a group of Egyptians in the heart of the city.
The situation started with an exchange of greetings in the Egyptian dialect he acquired during his stay in Cairo in 2013, where he engaged in conversation with those present in the store, discussing his electoral program and promises, saying: "I will freeze rents for more than two million people."
Then Mumtaz's eyes fell on a cat sleeping on some boxes, he knelt down in a humane scene, and petted it, before one of the attendees informed him that the cat was named "Misr". The new mayor then replied in the Egyptian dialect: "Mother of the World.. How are you, Pasha.. Is everything alright?"
The phrase quickly spread, igniting a wave of interaction online, where some praised Zahran Mumtaz's political acumen, and his loyalty to Egypt as well, the country where he stayed for consecutive weeks to study Arabic.
Mumtaz, known for his Ugandan Indian origins, is recognized for his ongoing support for Arab and Muslim communities in New York, and he is keen on direct engagement with them through field visits and various events, in addition to his active presence on social media.
