Khaberni - A young man killed his wife and infant inside their home in the village of Zanara in Monufia Governorate, northern Egypt, before posting pictures of the crime on his personal Facebook account, in an incident that shook Egyptian public opinion in the past hours.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the 28-year-old suspect used a knife to commit the crime, targeting his 22-year-old wife and their six-month-old child while they were sleeping; in his Facebook post, he indicated that the child was not his own, adding: "Guys, I slaughtered my wife and my son."
The security forces rushed to the scene immediately upon receiving the report, apprehended the suspect, and took custody of him. The bodies were transferred to the central hospital's morgue at the disposal of the public prosecutor's office, and the pictures posted on Facebook were deleted due to their gruesomeness.
The public prosecutor took charge of investigating the incident, summoning eyewitnesses and family members of the victim and the accused to determine the motives of the incident and to find out if there were any family disputes or psychological pressures behind the crime, while security forces are intensifying efforts to fully uncover the circumstances.
The Ministry of Interior issued a statement clarifying that the investigations led to the identification and apprehension of the suspect and the weapon used in the crime, confirming that all necessary legal actions were taken.
Meanwhile, the victim's family affirmed the innocence of their daughter and demanded retribution for her and her child, emphasizing that she was a student of Al-Azhar, memorized the Holy Quran, and had an unblemished reputation throughout her life.
