Khaberni - Former U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday, in a post on his "Truth Social" platform, that the U.S. government will pay most citizens a "cash amount" of at least $2000 each.
Trump noted in his post that only high-income individuals will be exempted, without specifying the income levels or the timeline for this.
Trump’s post comes about a week after the Democrats made gains across the country in many local and state elections, notably winning the gubernatorial seats in New Jersey and Virginia, and wresting control of seats from the Republicans in the Public Service Commission in Georgia, a strongly Republican state.
After the elections, criticism emerged within Trump's own supporters indicating that he had not paid sufficient attention to his core electoral base, who he had promised during his campaign to reduce living costs.
President Trump had publicly floated the idea of distributing cash to American citizens several months ago, but had not followed up on the matter at that time.
