Khaberni - The hashtag "Marry Me Without Dowry" has once again topped the trend lists on the "X" platform in a number of Arab countries over the past three days, achieving thousands of interactions and tweets.
Tracking the hashtag "#MarryMeWithoutDowry" reveals that the majority of its participants are men from Arab countries, contrary to most reports claiming it was initiated by Lebanese women to combat spinsterhood according to circulated headlines, in addition to the hashtag not making it to the trend list in Lebanon.
The circulating picture is of Lebanese women who participated in the 2019 revolution and it is not true that it was a campaign launched by them to combat spinsterhood due to the economic situation Lebanon is experiencing.
Lebanon topped the list of Arab countries with the highest rate of women not marrying, where it reached 85 percent, according to the latest studies conducted by Western media and research centers in 2018.
Bahrain recorded the lowest rate at 25 percent, while the rates in Yemen reached 30 percent, and around 40 percent was recorded in Morocco and Egypt, and 42 percent in both Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and 50 percent in Algeria, and 62 percent in Tunisia.
