After repeated chemical leak incidents in schools Ministry of Environment intervenes

Khaberni - Amid repeated incidents of chemical leaks inside school labs, the Ministry of Environment, in coordination with Civil Defence and Public Security, followed up on a chemical spill that occurred on Sunday morning in a private school in the capital Amman, resulting in several students and teachers suffering from respiratory distress.

The ministry confirmed in a statement that it responded immediately upon receiving the report, where the field inspection revealed an ammonia leak in one of the labs, and the expired chemicals were immediately sorted out and secured, preparing them for transport to the hazardous waste treatment center in Suwaqa, according to approved environmental procedures and instructions.

In a preventive step, the ministry announced the formation of a specialized field team in cooperation with related entities, to conduct inspection tours of schools, inventory the chemicals stored in their labs, and ensure their safe handling and storage, enhancing environmental safety measures within educational institutions.

In turn, the Minister of Education, Azmi Mahafzah, reassured the health status of the injured, confirming that all of them are in good health and have left the hospital except for one student suffering from asthma.
