Khaberni - An Egyptian citizen residing in Jordan revealed on "Khaberni" that the price of a tin of virgin Sinai olive oil in Egypt is about 70 dinars, indicating that the oil was freshly pressed during October and is of excellent quality (first grade).
This coincides with the announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture that it will start accepting olive oil import applications from next Sunday, aimed at securing sufficient quantities of oil in local markets with appropriate quality and price, given the decrease in local production this season.
The ministry confirmed in a press statement that the acceptance of applications will continue for five days, clarifying that the import process will be limited to members of the International Olive Council, to ensure the product meets international standards and maintains the quality of the imported oil.
It is expected that opening the door to imports will help control the prices of olive oil locally, amid increasing demand and a decline in locally produced quantities, opening up options for importing from regional sources such as Egypt, Palestine, and Spain.
