Khaberni - Mohammad Al-Shaker, the Executive Director of Arab Weather, said that the current delay in rainfall that the Kingdom is experiencing is not considered an unusual climactic occurrence; rather, it has been repeated in many past seasons.
However, what is noteworthy, according to Al-Shaker, is that 65% of these seasons, about 33 rainy seasons, witnessed a significant improvement in rainfall performance during the second half of the season, and ended either around the general averages or above them.
Al-Shaker explained that the climatic records in Jordan show that rainfall weaknesses at the beginnings of seasons are not new to the climate of the Kingdom, as the climate of Jordan is naturally variable due to its location in a transition area between the desert climate and the Mediterranean climate, which makes it prone to significant fluctuations in rainfall amounts from year to year.
Al-Shaker added that the climate data issued by the Jordan Meteorological Department indicate that there are about 50 rainy seasons out of 100 that started with weak beginnings, during which the Kingdom suffered from delayed or weak rainfall in the autumn.
Al-Shaker concluded his talk by emphasizing that these data are a positive indicator and promising for the improvement of weather conditions in the coming weeks, God willing.
