Marka Airport Licensing by the End of the Month

Khaberni - The general manager of the Airport Management Company, Ahmad Al-Azam, confirmed that Amman Civil Airport (Marka) will obtain a license to operate civil flights by the end of this month from the "Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission" after meeting all the commission's standards.
He explained that after obtaining the license, the airport will be ready to host and dispatch flights from low-cost companies, according to Al-Ghad newspaper.
It is noted that a renovation was conducted at Marka Airport including aspects like upgrading safety equipment, arrivals halls, and the filling of the airside of the valley at the airport, which is approximately 900 meters long and about 17 meters deep, and a runway end safety area project at the airport.
Currently, Amman Civil Airport (Marka) operates as a joint-use airport and is receiving non-commercial aircraft.
Jordan has three airports: Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba, in addition to Amman Civil Airport in the Marka area of Amman.
Amman Civil Airport was founded in 1952 in the northern Marka area in Amman on a land area of 2,750,000 square meters, and it is the first airport built in Jordan.
Al-Azam told Al-Ghad that the cost of the airside valley fill amounted to about 4.5 million dinars, while the runway end safety cost nearly one million dinars, affirming the airport management’s plans to communicate with low-cost airlines to encourage them to use Marka Airport and include it in their flight schedules.
He mentioned that Amman Airport is a city airport and serves as a backup to Queen Alia International Airport, not as a competitor, being designed to accommodate medium-sized aircraft and equipped for low-cost airline landings, thus promoting tourism, illustrating cooperation and coordination with the Tourism Promotion Authority in this field.
