Rapid Support Abu Lulu on trial in Darfur

Khaberni - The Rapid Support Forces announced on Saturday that they are investigating and verifying crimes committed in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur in western Sudan.

The Rapid Support Forces stated in a release: "Today in El Fasher, we are trying the individual known as Abu Lulu", whose real name is Al-Fateh Abdullah Idris, one of the suspects involved in the violations that occurred in El Fasher.

They added that they would remove mines from within the neighborhoods of El Fasher, while committing to "provide humanitarian aid in El Fasher", ensuring that it is delivered to the city.

It is noted that after the Rapid Support Forces took control of El Fasher, the last main stronghold of the Sudanese army in Darfur, the United Nations reported massacres, rape, looting, and mass displacement of the population.

Furthermore, many testimonies, supported by video clips published by the forces on social media, described "atrocities in the city which was completely cut off from communications", according to reports by the AFP news agency.

For its part, the Sudanese government accused the Rapid Support Forces of killing two thousand civilians. While the Rapid Support Forces denied the occurrence of war crimes, they acknowledged some violations had occurred and confirmed an investigation had been opened to hold those involved accountable.

It is also noted that the conflict that erupted in Sudan in mid-April 2023 has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and caused the displacement of about 12 million people, leading to the largest crises of displacement and hunger in the world, according to the United Nations.
