Khaberni - Today, the Minya Criminal Court in Upper Egypt witnessed an extraordinary moment of drama when the court issued a death sentence by hanging for the accused "Hagar A. A.", aged 26, after her involvement in the murder of her husband and six children by poisoning the bread was proven, in a crime that shocked Upper Egypt last July.
One of the most poignant scenes in the courtroom was the mother holding her infant in her arms while the judge pronounced the final sentence. The child sleeps peacefully, and the mother faces her fate, reflecting a mix of sadness and relief among the victims' families after a long wait for justice.
Postponement of Execution Due to Breastfeeding
Despite the sentencing, the execution will not be immediate, as the accused is a mother of an infant, and Egyptian law provides temporary protection in such cases.
The law states that enforcement is applied after exhausting all legal remedies, prior to the implementation of the new law. Meanwhile, the new Criminal Procedure Law defines a period to delay the execution of the death sentence on a pregnant or nursing woman.
According to Article (444) of the new law, the punishment on the nursing mother is postponed until her child reaches two years of age, ensuring the continuity of natural breastfeeding and protecting the child's rights.
Under the old law, Article (476) specified only a two-month period after birth before carrying out the sentence, while the new law provides longer protection, establishing principles of humanitarian justice and the rights of women and children.
This postponement ensures that the sentence is executed according to precise legal parameters that consider the interests of the infant and the rights of the mother, balancing the achievement of ultimate justice and the protection of innocent children.
Delga Massacre
Last July, the village of Delga in Deir Mawas center witnessed an unprecedented tragedy, where the father and his six children were killed after eating bread poisoned with a lethal substance by the father's wife, premeditatedly.
Investigations revealed that the accused bought a poisonous pesticide, mixed it with the dough before serving it to the family, and then quietly left the house after committing the crime.
The Public Prosecution described the incident as "too heinous to be forgiven," affirming that the accused committed the crime with premeditation and deliberation, with no regard for childhood or family life.
