Khaberni - The Libyan Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a number of officials at the Curriculum and Educational Research Center following investigations related to financial embezzlement and illegal management of contracts related to the printing of school textbooks.
The detention order included the center's financial controller and his predecessor, the head of the financial department, the head of the procurement committee, the director of the book administration, and the bookstores' keeper, following a trail of information revealed by the investigations.
Investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Prosecution within the jurisdiction of the Tripoli Appeals Court revealed that the center's management had signed a contract with a Jordanian company specializing in printing between the years 2020 and 2024, but the contract did not comply with the administrative rules governing the management of public funds allocated for printing school textbooks.
It was also found that educational materials for the computer science subject for the basic education stage were received without verifying that the electronic version met the required standards, in addition to paying 85% of the contract value despite not receiving a version matching the agreed specifications.
Moreover, the investigations showed that the center's officials contracted with a company to print a French language textbook despite it not matching the approved curricula for the basic education stage.
The investigations also confirmed the existence of irregularities in assessing the printing capabilities of national companies, confirming the technical capabilities of some printers despite the officials knowing they relied on external sources due to lacking the necessary technical capacity.
The Public Prosecution noted that the investigation resulted in the waste of approximately 11 million dinars of public funds, leading it to issue an order for the provisional detention of the concerned officials pending the investigation.
