Khaberni - Chinese company Huawei has added a new ultra-thin phone to its lineup, introducing a direct competitor to Apple's iPhone Air for Chinese consumers.
The new phone is named "Mate 70 Air", it is 6.6 mm thick, costs 4,199 yuan ($590), which is much less than the $999 price of the iPhone Air, but it does not match its extreme thinness, according to a Bloomberg report, reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business".
Apple introduced the "Air" model within its smartphone series for the first time with the iPhone 17 series, which was launched this fall, and Huawei explicitly competes with this model by adopting the same name.
This year, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have shown a greater willingness to compete directly with Apple. Xiaomi announced the release date of its latest high-end phones, and renamed them to align with Apple's style, introducing Xiaomi 17 and the "17 Pro" series to users with better specifications and lower prices than Apple.
However, Apple's latest phones achieve better sales than the company's previous generation in China this year, which may be a reason for more of its competitors to offer new alternatives.
Huawei, a long-standing prominent company in the high-end smartphone sector in China and Apple's strongest competitor in the country over the years, did not rush to join the competition last month when all other local phone manufacturers hastened to launch their devices.
Instead of trying to compete with Apple's high-end phones, its "Mate 70 Air" targets the age group that is most interested in design, the same demographic attracted by the iPhone Air.
Despite its thinness, the "Huawei Air" phone offers fewer trade-offs than Apple's ultra-thin phone. The "Mate 70 Air" features a 7-inch screen, stereo speakers, and a large battery with a capacity of 6,500 milliampere-hours.
The new phone runs on Huawei's proprietary operating system and is available for pre-order in China through the company's online store, with deliveries starting on November 11.
