Khaberni - The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khreisat, confirmed that the term "whales" is not officially recognized, but it is used by some to refer to large meat traders, indicating that the markets are currently witnessing a decrease in the prices of poultry and meat.
In an interview on Jordanian television on Friday, Khreisat stated that the agricultural sector recorded the highest growth rate among economic sectors, reaching 8.1%, reflecting the efforts made to support local production and enhance food security.
He explained that the Ministry of Agriculture provides interest-free loans of up to 20,000 dinars to support entrepreneurial ideas in the agricultural field, emphasizing that the Jordanian farmer is the real capital of the ministry.
The minister pointed out that the Olive Festival, organized annually by the ministry, has become an important marketing window for rural products and attracts most Jordanians, as it offers direct support to farmers and local products.
Regarding the olive oil file, Khreisat clarified that the import of oil will begin next Sunday through the ministry's electronic services platform, noting that the current price of an oil container ranges between 100 and 110 dinars.
He added that olive oil production has declined this season by about 10,000 tons due to the lack of rain and drought, emphasizing that "it is not reasonable to open the door to exporting olive oil in the face of a deficit," while at the same time affirming that the export door will open later after stabilizing the local market.
Khreisat concluded by stating that Jordan has achieved 62% self-sufficiency in most agricultural materials, pointing out that the ministry is continuing its plans to support farmers and achieve national food security.
