Khaberni - Turkish media reported that Ankara is working on launching a new land trade corridor that directly connects it with Jordan and reaches the Gulf Arab states through Syrian territory, as part of a project called "Middle East Road".

It is expected to be fully operational by 2026 after completing technical and infrastructure works, where the new route will reduce the transport time that used to take a month via maritime outlets to less than a week via land routes.

The new route is expected to reduce the shipping costs Turkey incurs by about 40%, making Turkish exports reach faster and increase their availability in the Jordanian and Gulf markets.

For its part, Jordan has welcomed the project and expressed its readiness to work on upgrading roads, crossings, and customs procedures as the new route will map regional trade and provide a quick and safe alternative to maritime shipping, which may pose a challenge to the major barriers in the region.
